Welcome to Live in Your Light’s first newsletter! With so much change happening both in nature and here at Live in Your Light, it feels fitting to begin this newsletter journey during the Autumn Equinox.  You may or may not know that the Autumn Equinox marks a moment of balance. It is a time when daylight and darkness are nearly equal in length. From here, the days slowly become shorter, darkness begins to take up more space, and the light becomes a little more precious. As humans, we may find ourselves trying to fight this shift. We don’t always like the days feeling shorter or the darkness arriving earlier. But when we watch nature, we see something different. Nature doesn’t fight the change; it simply accepts the season for what it is. The trees don’t apologize for letting go of their leaves. The flowers don’t complain as they lose their petals. They don’t cling to what has already served its purpose. Instead, they simply make space. They breathe, release, and reseed as they move into a new season. Maybe we can learn something from this process. As we move into autumn, let’s take some time to identify what we are ready to release, remember, and reseed for the future. There is beauty in change, even when change feels uncomfortable. So this autumn, let’s slow down, notice what is shifting, and allow ourselves to make space for what comes next.

Autumn Equinox Practice

A calming seasonal image showing nature and autumn leaves representing balance.

Embrace the shift of the seasons with this intentional practice designed to help you find equilibrium and peace as we enter the harvest phase of the year.

Practice Steps

1. Grab a warm drink, a journal. and something to write with. Then, find a quiet outdoor spot. Sit somewhere you can notice the changing season. Settle in, and take a few slow, deep breaths. Now, take the time to observe what is around you. Start by using all five senses. What do you smell, hear and see? How does the air feel on your skin? How does the your warm drink taste?

2. Reflect on what you are releasing. Ask yourself: What am I ready to let go of? What is no longer serving me? What have I been carrying that I don't need to carry into this next season? This doesn't have to be childhood trauma. It can also be what you learned from Spring and Summer of 2026. Write these things down on a piece of paper, and sit with what it would feel like to no longer carry these things. How would life feel or look different? Imagine that in your mind’s eye.

3. Next, take some time to practice gratitude. On that same page, write down 3–5 things from the past season that you are grateful for. They can be big or incredibly small. This practice helps us remember all the gifts the past seasons have provided.

4. Set an intention for the season ahead. If goals seem hard, then choose one word or an intention. Examples: rest, balance, nourishment, courage, connection, boundaries, simplicity, presence silliness. If you decide to write out an intention, be specific in your language and end with asking that this intention be met with your highest good in mind and without harm to anyone.

5. Now, it is time to symbolically let go by tearing up your list. Then, if it feels meaningful to you, place the pieces in a compost pile, safely burn them, or simply fold them up and acknowledge that you are choosing to leave these things behind. Remember, there is no right way to let go.

6. The final step is to close with a reminder. Take a few breaths and remind yourself: "I now honor what has been, I release what no longer serves me, and I make room for all the greatness that comes next."

Candace's Corner

I often hear in sessions that clients would like to know a little more about me. So I thought it would be fun to add this section to the newsletter and give you a peek at what I’m up to when I’m not sitting across the screen from you. As many of you know, the last few months have been busy behind the scenes. I’ve been working hard to get insurance companies, paperwork, and all the other behind-the-scenes pieces of running a private practice transitioned and online. Which means I spent way too many hours in September cussing about transitions and listening to robot voices while sitting on hold. There have also been some really exciting changes! Live in Your Light has gotten a little fancy. It has a new logo, an updated website, and I even had new photos taken. Then Outside of Work..... I got to see Garth Brooks in concert! My inner littles and I danced and sang every word to every song. I really loved seeing him live. I have also been dancing and singing (daily) to “Celebrate Me” by Ingarose. The words remind me that I am a badass, and my inner littles love wiggling it out, so it has been on repeat for weeks now. I did something BRAVE this month. I tried hammock yoga. I have a goal to move my body once a day so naturally one picks hammock yoga to do this. This class has been an interesting lesson in honoring my body and getting out of my head. It has taken me several classes just to trust the hammock. Now, my new goal is to figure out how to flip upside down. I have some time before that happens, but there is a goal! My book club met at the beginning of the month, and we all read Theo of Golden. I was not a fan of the book, and it was definitely a divided group on this months pick. Many of us loved it. The one book I really did enjoy this month was Where the Wildflowers Grow by Terah Shelton Harris. This book felt like reading a love song to people and flowers. I soaked up her use of language while storytelling. September did bring some big challenges in our home. We recently found out that Winston is struggling with kidney failure. The last few weeks have brought a lot of worry, tears, and trying to spend as much time with him as we can. He is responding to treatment, but unfortunately, this is not curable. The news of this diagnosis has really made me slow down and spend more time cuddling with my dogs. So, there it is. A little glimpse into my life lately: a lot of work, a little yoga, some reading, live music with my inner littles, exciting changes at Live in Your Light, and a whole lot of cuddling with my pups. Oh and before you ask, I too am working on releasing things from past seasons. I have been asking for guidance around fear about the changes within Live in Your Light and this year my goal was to work on my own self abandonment.  So that has meant saying NO when I need to (this one was easier for me) and saying YES when I know I want to but I am afraid. It has been hard and amazing to watch me step up to this challenge. Can't wait to hear what you all discover through this exercise.

I currently have four openings for new clients in October. If you or someone you know is looking for a therapist, referrals are always welcome. Feel free to share my information with anyone who may be looking for a therapist who does things a little differently.
